Should I create a mind map to organize my notes about a novel that I am reading, WHILE actually reading it?

Hi, I plan on reading Tolkien's books again over the summer in order to get a deeper appreciation of them. Should I create a mind map with which to take notes on the books while reading? I heard that mind mapping activates your brain a lot more, but I'm not sure if it would be able to map all of the basic aspects of Tolkien's novels (e.g., the plot). So should I use a mind-map while doing ysis, a linear journal/list, or a combination of the two (for summarizing the plot)?
